Murder charge laid in seniors home death

An 85-year-old Ottawa man faces a count of second-degree murder in the death of a nursing home resident last October.

An 85-year-old Ottawa manhas been charged withsecond-degree murder in the death of a nursing home resident last October.

The accused appeared in court Wednesday, charged with killing 88-year-old Frank Moir, said an Ottawa police news release.

Moir's body was foundin his room at the Peter D. Clark long-term care home at Meridian Place around 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 21.

Two days later, police said an autopsy had determined that the death was a homicide.

The Peter D. Clark centre is the largest city-run long-term care home in Ottawa, with 211 beds in a complex of houses and bungalows.
