National Holocaust Monument design team announced

Canada's National Holocaust Monument, to be located in central Ottawa, will be designed by a team including artist Edward Burtynsky and architect Daniel Libeskind, and is set to open in the fall of 2015.

The winning design team was announced Monday at the Canadian War Museum in Lebreton Flats. The monument will sit at the corner of Booth and Wellington streets, facingthe museum.

The design team, led byGail Dexter-Lord of Lord Cultural Resources, includes Libeskind and Burtynsky, as well aslandscape architect Claude Cormier and subject-matter adviser Doris Bergen.

"The concept depicts a star created by six triangular volumes at each of its points organized around a large gathering space for ceremonies. Each one of these volumes provides a unique theme and ambience for interpretation, contemplation and artistic expression."

The monument will be overseen bythe National Capital Commission.
