Flood-affected areas in Ottawa, eastern Ontario get small break

Environment Canada has ended its weather warnings for Ottawa, Gatineau and areas of eastern Ontario, but residents affected by flooding are still on alert with a thunderstorm in the forecast for Monday.

At one point, 50 to 75 millimetres of rain wasexpected but the forecast dropped as Sunday approached before the warnings of heavy rainfallended late Sunday morning.

Environment Canada does forecast a thunderstorm on Monday as the temperature rises above 20 degrees Celsius.

Areas in western Quebec like Maniwaki, Low and Wakefield, do still have a rainfall warning predicting between 30 and 40 millimetres of rain by Monday.

The rain could also switch to snow in theOttawa-Gatineauregion on Tuesday, with Algonquin Park seeing more snowfall than surrounding areas.

Flood warning heightened

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority saidrain will cause existing high flows of water to "increase significantly".

The residential areas that could be affected by rising water levelsare:

• New Edinburgh in the vicinity of Stanley Avenue.
• Brantwood Park at Onslow Crescent.
• Old Ottawa South (Rideau River Lane, Warrington Drive, Harvard Avenue and Raleigh Street).
• Communities on the Long Reach upstream of Manotick including around the Carleton Golf & Yacht Club and Hurst Marina.
• Upstream of Kars Bridge including Commodore Drive.
• Low lying properties in the Village of Kars, Lorne Bridge Road;
• Fennell Laneand neighbouring private roads.
• Greenline Road, Fairmile Road, HillyLane, Rideau Glen and Becketts Landing, all on the Rideau River.
• On Kemptville Creek, Cedar Beach to Riverview Roads are at risk.
• On the Jock River, parts of Richmond in the King Street to Fowler Street vicinity are atrisk.
• Low lying properties in North Gower on Steven Creek could be inundated.
• Streets inthe south east part of Perth and around the curling club will be flooded.

Residents in these areas are being urged to take precautions to minimize property damage and stay safe.

Sand and bags available at city yards

The City of Ottawa said sand and bags are available this weekend at city yards, including those on Rideau Valley and Roger Stevens drives.
