Last-minute competitors in Beacon Hill-Cyrville

About a week before the nominations closed for this fall's municipal election, it looked as if the three-term incumbent might be acclaimed. But two competitors joined the race in the last stretch of the nomination period.

A couple of candidates signed up in the last week to take on the 3-term incumbent

About a week before the nominations closed for this fall's municipal election, it looked as if three-term incumbent Tim Tierneymight beacclaimed.

But two candidates signed up at the last minute: community advocate Miranda Gray who told CBC she did not believe anyone should be acclaimed and University of Ottawa student Nicolas Castro.

Tierney was almost acclaimed in 2018 as well before a last-minute candidate ran. The OPP launchedan investigation into an allegation he triedto bribe his opponent to drop out, but Tierney still won with more than 80 per cent of the vote. He was chargedin late 2018, but the following year, the Crown withdrew the charges in exchange for Tierney apologizing for what he said was a "mistake" and forfeiting two months' salary.

Election day is Monday, Oct. 24. For more information about where and how to vote, visit thecity's election page.
