Ottawa nursing-home death a homicide

The death of an elderly man at a long-term care home in Ottawa's west end this week was a homicide, an autopsy has confirmed.

An autopsywas performed Friday on the body of 88-year-old Frank Moir, Ottawa police said in a news release.

Moir was found dead in his room at the Peter D. Clark home on Meridian Drive, near Baseline transit station, around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police provided no details of the autopsy results beyondthe confirmation of homicide.

Forensic investigators continued to gather evidence Friday,while patrol officers guarded the scene.

Moir's death was the city's fifth homicide this year.

The Peter D. Clark centre is the largest city-run long-term care home in Ottawa, with 211 beds in a complex of houses and bungalows.
