Ottawa's Christine MacNeil shot and killed in Gatineau hotel

The Ottawa family of 25-year-old Christine MacNeil has no idea what led her to the Gatineau hotel where she was shot and killed Monday night.

Her father, John MacNeil,described her as "happy-go-lucky young lady" who worked at a salon in Ottawa that offerednail and tanning services.

"As good as gold, as far as I'm concerned,"hetold CBC News."I'm still quite shaken up."

Gatineaupolice were called to the Four Points Sheraton Hotel on RueLauriershortly after 8 p.m. ET Monday followingreports ofshotsfired inthe building.

It's the first homicide inGatineauthis year.

MacNeilsaid police told him they were looking for a male suspect in his daughter's death.

"I really hope that they find this person quickly and that he's dealt his justice swiftly," he said.

ChristineMacNeil's stepmother told CBC News theyfound out about the death when Gatineaupolicedetectivesknocked on their door inVanierat 4 a.m. Tuesday.

"Christine was loved by a lot of people and she'll be missed a lot," PaulineMacNeilsaid.

Police have not told the family much, aside from the fact thather stepdaughterwas dropped off at the hotel in a black car and that "there was a man," she said.

"We don't know what happened. We're waiting to get answers," she said. "Who did it? And why?"
