Ottawa logs its snowiest January on record

Ottawa woke up to another fresh blanket of snow Tuesday morning, breaking the previous January snowfall record set in 1999.

Before the snow started to fly Monday night, Ottawa had received 89.4 centimetres, most of it during the latter half of the month.

An Alberta clipper system passing throughthe regionwill is expected to leave another12 and 17centimetres by the time it ends Tuesday night, surpassing the previous January record of 93 centimetres measured 20 years ago at the Ottawa International Airport.

If you have to be out on the roads Tuesday, don't expect to get anywhere too quickly.

Environment Canada is warning of snow throughout the day, with occasional blowing snow.

There's asnow squall watch for the Kingston and Belleville areas, where winds are expected to reach 60 km/h.

After a cold and windy start to the day with wind chill near 30, temperatures will jump to near 3 Cas winds shift to the south this afternoon.

As you dig out on Wednesday, you can expect mostly sunnyskies and a high of 14 C.
