Ottawa police are investigating a shooting Monday evening on Baseline Road in the Pinecrest neighbourhood, the latest in a series of shootings in the last week.

Police say at about 9:55 p.m. two men with guns approached another man in the 2300 block of Baseline Road and fired multiple shots.

The man, who is 31 and known to police, fled and was not injured. The shooting incident is believed to be related to drugs and the victim is co-operating with police, they said.

Ottawa police's guns and gang unit is investigating.

The incident is just the latest shooting reported in the city's west end.

Last Tuesday three shots were fired into a home in the 2200 block of Elmira Drive, off Iris Street between Woodroffe Avenue and Greenbank Road.

That shooting comes nearly a week after multiple shots were fired into the room of a home on Penny Drive, where four children were playing.

This is the city's 44th shooting incident of 2014, which is already 14 more than the total reported in 2013, according to Ottawa police Insp. Chris Renwick.

Ottawa police are asking anyone with information on any of these shootings to contact them at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050 or CrimeStoppers at 613-233-8477(TIPS), toll free at 1-800-222-8477.
