Pontiac candidate information and riding profile

Traditionally a Liberal riding, Pontiac in west Quebec was taken over by the Conservatives in 2006 before joining the orange wave that saw the NDP elected as official opposition in 2011.

This mainly rural riding in west Quebec is north of Ottawa, much of italong the Ontario border. It includes part of the City of Gatineau, as well as theregional municipalitiesof Pontiac, les Collines de l'Outaouais andLa Valle-de-la-Gatineau, including thevillages ofChelsea andWakefield.

Rapid Lake andKitiganZibiFirst Nations reserves are in the riding, and the number of people reporting aboriginal origin was more than 13 per cent in the 2011National Household Survey.

Nearly 24 per cent of people in the riding reported English as a first language in the 2011 census.
