Shots fired outside Elgin Street bar, on Queensway overnight

Ottawa police's guns and gangs unit is investigating two separate reports of shots fired including a possible drive-by shooting on the Queensway eastbound near the Rochester Street exit and outside an Elgin Street bar.

Two separate incidents of shots fired in Ottawa overnight Friday surprised police.

Ottawa police are investigating two reports of shots fired in the citys Centretown and downtown areas overnight.

Police say officers first responded to a reported shooting on Highway 417 eastbound near the Rochester Street exit at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.

They found a car carrying five people with two bullet holes, but nobody was injured. Police said the two shots were fired by a suspectfrom a black sedan at a vehicle with five Muslim women, who were wearing hijabs.Police would not indicate whether the incident involved hate.

A 45-calibre bullet pierced the passenger-side door and a second bullet hit the side window of the rear seat, police said.

Man in altercation with bouncers

The second reported incident happened at 2:49 a.m. Saturday outside a bar in the 300 block of Elgin Street.

Police responded and found shell casings on the ground, but no gun.

Police later said a man was denied entry into The Living Room,which led to a confrontation with bouncers. The man unloaded 10 gun shots at the bouncers as they left for the night from the club's back door, police added.

No injuries were reported in this case, either.

The guns and gangs unit is investigating each incident separately. They are also asking anyone with information about either incident to call them at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050.
