Campground getting $1M worth of upgrades

The Stanhope Campground at the P.E.I. National Park is getting some major upgrades.

The federal government announced Fridaythat more than $1 million worth of work will be doneat the campground.

The improvements include upgrading campsites, the construction of a new playground, as well as upgrades to the camper registration area, roads and washroom facilities.

Parks Canada officials saidover the last few years there has been a trend of more campers using tent-trailers, small campers and RVs.

Theynoteupgrading the facilities will allow them to better accommodate visitors.

Work will begin this fall and is scheduled to be complete in time for the 2015 camping season.
