We had a record breaking year with 317,827 enplaned and deplaned passengers, said airport CEO Doug Newson in a news release.

"It was the first time in our history that we surpassed the 300,000 passenger mark.

Newson said that PEI 2014 celebrations across the Island contributed a lot to the increased passenger traffic, along with the increased tourism promotion.

Newson is expecting another good year for Charlottetown Airport in 2015, but there will be lower seat capacity. Delta Airlines has suspended their seasonal July and August flights between New York and Charlottetown this year.

Newson said the suspension is due to operational constraints at JFK airport in New York. The route was well-used this summer, he said. He hopes the flight will return in 2016.

Air Canada capacity will also be down, but WestJet will maintain its 2014 capacity.
