Changes to improve accessibilityat the Charlottetown Farmer's Market are underway.

To help seniors and those with disabilities, the market will be installing a new automatic door in the next few weeks. There will also be new easier to access picnic tables with individual seats.

Market manager Bernie Plourde says accessibility for vendors and customers has been an issue for years.

"It's a social place. People like to gather and talk about what's going on around town, buy local and support the local farmers and artisans and if you can't come here and participate, we're kind of missing the point by having our doors open to the public when certain segments of the population can't access it," said Plourde.

A fundraiser called the maple sugar social raised $2,500 to cover most of the cost of the door and tables.
