Charlottetown transit will now run 7 days a week

Charlottetown's transit service is expanding to seven days a week starting this Sunday.

Buses will run along the University Avenue route from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. every Sunday.

Mike Cassidy, the owner of T3 Transit, says route one, from the downtown area to the Charlottetown Mall, has always been the busiest route and so it made sense to expand it to Sunday.

"We'd been asked for Sunday service for a while now. More importantly, on April 19 when we operated Sunday to allow UPEI students to get to their exams this past semester, it certainly gave me the incentive to talk to our staff and see if we could get a Sunday service," said Cassidy.

"We made our presentation to the city and we have been approved and we are excited that we will be starting for the first Sunday ever, this Sunday. And it's the month of our tenth anniversary which is rather nice also."

Cassidy says students, Sunday shoppers and retail employees will likely take advantage of the new service.

He says there are no additional subsidies from the city.

The UPEI student union says Sunday service will have a positive impact on the lives of many students.

Students receive a T3 transit pass as part of their student fees.

Meanwhile, Mike Cassidy says his other transportation company Maritime Bus now owns all the shuttle services from P.E.I. to the mainland after buying Advanced Shuttle and P.E.I. Shuttle Service.

He says customers will have just as many opportunities to travel off-Island.
