With no snow yet, ski trails at P.E.I.'s Brookvale park are busy with bikers.

It's December, but Bonnie Smith is still cycling along the trails in Brookvale, P.E.I.

"This is the first time that I've cycled this late into December," she said.

Albert Flavell is cycling too. He's the main trail builder for Cycling PEI at Brookvale.

He said there seems to be more people riding later in the season.

"There's some advantages because all the foliage is gone from the trees and so the sight lines open up. Right now it's really quite good. The ground is frozen so your traction is quite exceptional," he said.

Brookvale is usually known for its skiing in the winter months. This year, the warm weather has forced the Brookvale Winter Activity Park to postponeits openingto Dec. 31.

Flavell said cyclists are selective on the days they ride so they don't damage the trails.

While many cyclists are enjoying the extended season, many say they're ready to leave the trails to the skiers once the snow hits.
