A man in eastern P.E.I. has taken it upon himself to make sure no one in his town is alone on Christmas day.

Melvin Ford has organized a free turkey dinner at the King's Playhouse in Georgetown. He said this is the first time the town has held an event like this, but be believes it's been needed for a while now.

"Maybe they're not home for Christmas, maybe their children aren't home for Christmas, maybe it's just a couple. You know just a husband and wife and they have no children. Maybe it's a husband or a wife who's lost a spouse this year," said Ford.

"It's just that time of year where people get really lonely, and I don't know what it is about Christmas."

Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend.

Ford said he hasn't had to spend even one dollar so far on the dinner, because the community has been donating money and food for the event.
