Georges Arsenault named to Order of Canada

P.E.I. historian and author Georges Arsenault has been named to the Order of Canada.

Arsenault has written numerous books on the history of the Acadian people on P.E.I.

Arsenault was cited in a news release from Governor General David Johnston for "his contributions to the research, conservation and promotion of Prince Edward Island's Acadian history, culture and traditions."

Arsenualt was inducted into the order of P.E.I. in 2003.

He'll be invested as a member of the Order of Canada at an official ceremony later this year.

Georges Arsenault was born in Abram-Village. He has degrees in political science and folklore.

In addition to work with theSocit Saint-Thomas-d'Aquinon the Island, Arsenault worked as host of Radio-Canada's French language morning show for Prince Edward Island from 1986 to 2003. He has also taught Acadian studies at the University of Prince Edward Island.

Arsenault one of 113 new appointments announced Thursday morning by the Governor General David Johnston.
