Glamping takes off at P.E.I. National Park

The newest trend in camping is proving very popular at P.E.I. National Park.

The so-called glamorous camping experience, or glamping as it's called, involves staying in oTENTiks. The structures are half tent, half cabin.

There are seven oTENTiks at P.E.I. National Park and they are already pre-booked at 85 per cent occupancy for August.

Mike Critchley with Parks Canada says they appeal to first-time campers.

"We've been hearing that people really love the convenience. They love the little modern touches," he said.

"I hear people who say, 'Well I didn't ever think I'd go camping, but when I heard about these, this is the perfect match. This will get me right out into the great outdoors and still let me enjoy the comforts of home.' So people really like the convenience."

The oTENTiks are nylon structures, but they also have a deck, a barbeque, and are fully wired with electrical outlets.
