High gas prices worry tourism operators

Some tourism operators on P.E.I. are worried high gas prices may be cutting into their business.

Fewer tourists on the road, says campground operator

Some tourism operators on P.E.I. are worried high gas prices may be cutting into their business.

Katlyn Paynter, manager of Sunset Campground in Cavendish, said you just don't see the same number of vehicles on the road these days, and she blames high gas prices.

"When gas prices go up, you see a drop at times for campers,"

"We have a higher volume of trailers that come in and out, so when prices go up, the campers go down."

The Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I. doesn't think gas prices have a big impact on tourism. Officials say it's just part of vacation costs.

Official tourism numbers for last month still have yet to be released. TAIPEI says it will have a better idea about the season once those statistics are out.
