Humane Society dogs all adopted out

Anyone visiting the P.E.I. Humane Society looking for a dog to take home will be disappointed this week, because the dog kennels are empty.

Anyone visiting the P.E.I. Humane Society looking for a dog to take home will be disappointed this week, because the dog kennels are empty.

Mary Kent was at the Humane Society Thursday looking for a dog, but went away disappointed.

"I had a dog, a lab, and he lived for 11 years with me and then he finally laid to rest and now I'm looking to walk a smaller dog," said Kent.

"Sad, very sad, but I'm hoping somebody please bring me a dog so I can get out walking, even with the cold weather."

While the lack of dogs is a letdown for those who want to adopt, its good news for dogs, says Humane Society executive director Marla Somersall.

"It's stressful for them to be here, so it's great when we can find them homes and get them into a loving home," said Somersall

Somersall believes social media may be playing a role in the shortage of pups at the shelter.

"Probably some of the impact is some of the sites like Facebook, and places where people are posting a dog that they found, and so people are finding them that way and they're not necessarily coming to us," she said.

While there there are some other cuddly creatures looking for homes. Kittens, cats and even achinchilla are available for adoption.
