Jamie Fox named Progressive Conservative interim leader

Prince Edward Island's Progressive Conservative party has chosen Borden-Kinkora MLA Jamie Fox as interim leader replacing Rob Lantz, who resigned in September.

Fox will become the opposition leader until a permanent leader is chosen at a convention

Prince Edward Island's Progressive Conservative party has chosenBorden-Kinkora MLA Jamie Fox asinterim leaderreplacingRob Lantz, who resigned in September.

The party executive and caucus metat 6 p.m. AT and helda vote.

Only two candidates put their names forward for the position, Fox and Belfast-Murray River MLA Darlene Compton.

Comptonran for the leadership against Lantz in February and said she was encouraged by some executive and caucus members to seek the interim leadership.

Fox has made it clearhe has no intention of seeking the job on a permanent basis.

Hepreviously said the interim leader should be solely focused on the job of getting the party back on track.

Fox will serve asopposition leader until a new permanent leader is chosen at a convention.

The party wanted an interim leader in place before its annual meeting on Oct. 24 and Fox said he will begin work on the meetingright away.

Lantz stepped down after theelection in Maythat resulted in another Liberal majority.

The Tories improved their standing, winning eight seats, but Lantz did not win his district in Charlottetown. A recount showed he lost by 22 votes.
