Lacrosse PEI expanding to winter program

For the first time, Lacrosse PEI will hold a winter program. It will be held in both Summerside and Stratford and the cost for the 10-week program is $100.

For the first time since forming five years ago, Lacrosse PEI is putting on a winter program.

The number of young people playing Canada's official summer game on the Island has increased steadily, from 100 players the first year to 250 last year.

Jason MacDonald, president of Lacrosse PEI, says a one-day event at the indoor facility in Stratford over the holidays was such a success, they decided to offer a winter program.

"We have two programs possible," said MacDonald. "A recreational program and a more intense program. And that all depends on what players register."

"If we have a lot of new players we'll switch to more of a recreational program," he added. "If we have a lot of returning players who really want to improve their game we have more of an intense program for them."

Last summer, Lacrosse PEI was able to send a team to the under-15 national championships in Halifax.

The winter program will be held in both Summerside and Stratford and the cost for the 10-week program is $100.
