Lobster fisherman hauls blue giant

P.E.I. lobster fisherman Jason Peters caught the biggest lobster of his career Monday, and to add to the excitement the crustacean was of the rare blue variety.

The lobster weighs in at close to seven pounds, Jason's father Justin told CBC News Tuesday. The lobster is not as vivid as one caught two weeks ago, being more blue-grey.

The family had originally planned to eat it for dinner Monday, but it was still on ice Tuesday. Peters said his son is undecided about the lobster's ultimate fate.

Biologists say the blue pigment is very rare, occurring in only one lobster in every four million. Boiling the lobster would remove the pigment, making it as red as any other cooked lobster.
