Loose peacock hunted with cell phone and net

A P.E.I. man is trying everything he can to recover his new pet peacock, which got loose on Sunday.

Tango escaped from Kevin Cook in the Norboro area near Summerside, around the intersection of Route 2 and the BlueShank Road.

Cook has been trying different methods to get him back.

"I've downloaded sound clips of peacocks and peahens, playing them on my cellphone, so that that might attract him," he said.

"Plus I'm carrying with me, I have a net, a pike fishing net, which is a huge, six-foot pole. But that's as a last resort."

He said peacocks are incredibly quick and he doesn't want to hurt Tango when he catches him. He's hoping to lure him with dog food, something Tango loves.

Cook isn't worried about Tango surviving. He can forage and will do fine until the weather turns colder in December.
