Everybody wants to know what's going on in the world.- Mark Murphy

Mark Murphy has started a YouTube channel called Ocean Heart TV, where he plans to read P.E.I.'s news of the day in his first language.

Murphy, an accountant by trade, said he's responding to a challenge facing some members of the Island's Chinese community.

"They first want to see what's the news here, what's going on today? But then they turn on the TV, and it's all English or French. A lot of them don't understand it very much," he said.

"Everybody wants to know what's going on in the world, right? Especially where they are that day. So that's why I think it's a great need to be filled here in Prince Edward Island."

To start, Murphy won't be generating his own news, but will summarize the content that other local English media produce.

His hope is that as his newscast becomes more popular, more immigrants will step up to help. His goal is for his YouTube channel to feature newscasts delivered in several languages, and perhaps deliver some original stories as well.
