Tropical storm Hermine could bring rain to Maritimes

Tropical storm Hermine will not whack the Maritimes as a hurricane, but it could bring some serious rain at the end of the long weekend, says CBC meteorologist Peter Coade.

Tropical storm Hermine will not whack the Maritimes as a hurricane, but it could bring some serious rain at the end of the long weekend, says CBC meteorologist Peter Coade.

"It's expected to intensify to hurricane force as it makes landfall in the Florida panhandle, then move up just the east side of the Appalachians and pretty much stall around the Virginia and Washington area," said Coade.

"In that position [it could] push its rain up over the Maritime provinces."

Coade said he would expect 15 to 20 mm of rain on Monday on P.E.I. if this scenario plays out, but there is still a possibility of the storm's track changing and bringingno rain at all.

In advance of the potential rain Monday it looks like the weekend will be mostly sunny, with temperatures near the seasonal highs of 20C to 22C.
