Meron gets 2 years in jail

The man behind what police are calling the biggest child pornography case ever seen in Atlantic Canada was sentenced on Friday.

The man behind what police are calling the biggest child pornography case ever seen in Atlantic Canada was sentenced on Friday.

Clay Meron was sentenced to two years less a day in provincial jail on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

Charlottetown city police and the RCMP seized four complete computer systems, one laptop computer, and 64 hard drives during a raid on his home and office.

In total, more than 180,000 pictures and videos of children some as young as babies involved in sexual acts were on the machines.

The Mounties said his collection of kiddie porn was the largest they have ever dealt with.

The 35-year-old admitted they were his, a collection he downloaded from the internet, and then shared with other people.

"This is not a victimless crime," said Judge Nancy Orr. "These are someone's children, sister, or maybe by now, someone's mother."

Taking away the time Meron has already spent in jail, he'll spend another 15 months behind bars.

He's also been ordered to do 200 hours of community service, and spend three years on probation.

His name will also be added to the new federal sex offender registry. He becomes the first P.E.I. offender to be put on the federal list.
