P.E.I.'s 70-mile yard sale, which runs around the southeast corner of the province, has a lot more vendors this year, and may even be longer than70 milestoo.

The event started as a little loop of people in their front yards in 1997, and has grown into a major event. This weekend it will be that much bigger.

"Normally we say we have 150 [vendors]," said co-ordinator Audrey Shillabeer.

"I can confidently say instead of the 150 we are at least 250."

Shillabeer said the event probably covers more than 70 miles [112 kilometres] of road now as well.

More than a yard sale

This year's booklet, which lists vendors for the sale, also includes for the first time this year locals with single, larger items to sell, such as boats, cars or art.

With 12,000 copiesprinted and availability online, Shillabeer said the booklet is a good way to reach buyers. People looking to buy particular items are also invited to advertise.

Shillabeer said word of the yard sale has spread, and is attracting people from a long way off.

"We have people coming from Ontario, Quebec, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Florida," she said.

Money raised from vendors will go towards painting the Wood Islands Lighthouse. Shillabeer said the event is also becoming a major economic boostfor the region.
