Hold on to your shorts winter parking ban in effect

You may not have put away your summer shorts yet, but the winter season's overnight parking ban is in effect in the City of Charlottetown.

It may seem odd after four days of double digit temperatures, but it happens every Nov. 15. Parking is banned between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on city streets to allow the snowplows to go to work.

While the bylaw bans overnight parking from Nov. 15 to April 15, in practice, since the winter of 2012-13 the ban has only been enforced when there is snow in the forecast.

The city says it will try to issue warnings on nights the bans will be enforced on this web page, but warns the onus is on residents to be aware when snow or ice clearing might be happening.
