New community mailbox locks coming to 10K addresses in Charlottetown and Stratford

In an effort to prevent community mailboxes being frozen shut this year, Canada Post is replacing the locks for roughly 10,000 addresses in Charlottetown and Stratford.

Canada Post said the old locks weren't fit for the freezing rain and flash freezing P.E.I. experiences, but the new locks won't freeze under these conditions.

Work expected to wrap at the end of November

All affected addresses will receive a letter from Canada Post advising them the change will happen soon. A second letter will include keys for the new mailbox, and the exact date the change will happen.

The work is already underway with a mid-October start. It's expected to be finished by the end of November.

Locks are also being replaced in Quebec, Newfoundland and Ontario.

Customers are asked to call Canada Post's customer service line if they experience any issues with the new locks.
