Visitors to the Charlottetown airport this week may notice the cow sculpture usually fixed in the building is no longer there.

Bessie as the sculpture is affectionately known is currently out "for a routine refreshing," COWS Creamery confirmed to CBC News in an e-mail.

"She and a few of the rest of our herd typically go in once a year for a buff and polish, and to have their paint refreshed," said a spokesperson.

Bessie to be joined by rest of the 'herd'

"With all of the attention our cows usually get, they tend to accumulate a few scuffs and scrapes and so a little body work gets them refreshed for next summer!"

Bessie is currently at Dalziels' Auto Body in Charlottetown, along with another cow sculpture from the creamery. The cow sculptures from Peakes Quay in Charlottetown and from the Gateway Village in Borden-Carleton, P.E.I. will be joining them next week.

Bessie is expected to be back at the airport by the middle of next week.
