Northwest Passage cruise ship stops in Charlottetown

A luxury cruise ship, which recently completed a trip through the Northwest Passage, will be in Charlottetown Friday.

Crystal Serenity, the vessel operated by Crystal Cruises,completed a 32-day trip through the Northwest Passage in mid-September.

The 280-metre cruise ship,carrying more than 1,000 passengers, has travelled throughCanada's North on its journey through the Northwest Passage.

It was the touted as the largest vessel ever to make the trek through the Northwest Passage, and departed Anchorage, Alaska, on Aug. 16 on its way to New York.

Corryn Clemence, business manager for the Port of Charlottetown, expects the visit of the ship will create some interest on the dock.

"People are interested in something different and unique," said Clemence.

"That [trip]certainly was,and well documented, and I think because of that it becomes top of mind and a lot of people will pay more attention."

Cruise ship season is winding down in Charlottetown, and this will be the last full week of visits at the port.
