RCMP investigating after tires damaged on 2 mayors' cars

RCMP are investigating after tires were damaged on vehicles belonging to mayors of two communities in the Evangeline region of P.E.I.

RCMP are investigating after tires were damaged on vehicles belonging to mayors of two communities in the Evangeline region of P.E.I.

Police say the mayor of Abram-Village had the two front tires on his truck flattened, and the mayor of Wellington had a tire on the driver's side of his car punctured.

Both incidents were reported on April 28.

Roger Gallant, the mayor of Abram-Village, said someone drilled holes on the inside ofhis two front tires.

"You could see the drill-bit mark in the tires," he said. Hesaid he was frustrated to hear the mayor of Wellington also had his tires damaged.

"Coincidence? I don't know," he said.

There had beenongoing debate about forming one municipality in the area made up of Wellington, Abram-Village and surrounding communities.

More than a hundred people attended a recent meeting on the idea. In a statement releasedFriday afternoon, the committee that had been exploring the idea of a regional municipalitysaid the idea would be put on hold for now.

Police say they have no evidence to support the vandalism hadany connection tothe amalgamation dispute.
