P.E.I. flu activity typical for time of year, says influenza summary

The latest P.E.I. flu numbers reveal the Island is seeingregular levels of activity for this time of year.

According to the P.E.I. influenza summary, there have been 35 lab-confirmed cases of influenza so far this winter, including 12 hospitalizations and one death.

The median age of people contracting the flu to date is 35-years-old. The decrease in age of people being hit with the flu is not unexpected this year's strain tends to affect younger people.

Around this time last year, there had been 119 lab-confirmed cases of the flu, 50 hospitalizations and three deaths.

Reported, lab-confirmed flu cases are typically only a small portion of actual cases in the community, as not everyoneis tested for influenza.
