P.E.I. hires new French-language services complaints officer

P.E.I. has hired a new complaints officer under the French Language Services Act.

Darlene Arsenault of St. Chrysostome, P.E.I., a retired school principal and teacher who currently works as a project manager for the Village des Sources l'toile Filante, will take on the role, the province said in a news release.

The position has been vacant since Dec. 31, when Jean-Paul Arsenault resigned amid allegations the MacLauchlan government was failing to live up to a commitment to expand designated French-language services.

The complaints officer works with French Language Services co-ordinators and addresses complaints submitted by a member of the public through the complaints mechanism under the Act.

The position was created in 2013 under the previous Liberal government.
