"The heat warning will likely remain in effect at least through Wednesday with some relief in the form of possible showers or thundershowers on Thursday, although it will still be quite muggy," said CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland.

"Temperatures will ease a bit this weekend but humidex values look to still reach or exceed the 30 degree mark."

Environment Canada urges people to check on older family, friends and neighbours during heat warnings, to make sure they are cool and hydrated.

The weather service also recommended seeking a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, swimming pool, shower or bathor an air-conditioned spot like a public building.
