19-year-old man charged with murder after alleged street fight

Logan Raymond MacAusland, 19, has been charged with second-degree murder after the death of Cody Robert MacLean, 24, in Charlottetown early Tuesday morning.

The 24-year-old victim was located with serious injuries and later died in hospital

Logan Raymond MacAusland, 19, has been charged with second-degree murder after the death of Cody Robert MacLean, 24, in Charlottetown early Tuesday morning.

Charlottetown police said MacLeandied after a fight, and wasfound with serious injurieson Spring Street near Churchill Avenue around 1:13 a.m.

"Our initial investigation believes it was a stab wound, but until we receive the autopsy report that will not be confirmed," saidDeputyChief BradMacConnell.

MacLean, of Kingston, P.E.I.,was immediately transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and later died as a result of his injuries.

19-year-old man arrested

Police found MacAusland around 2:15 a.m.on Lower Malpeque Road. He was arrested "after a brief struggle,"MacConnellsaid.

A weapon was seized,MacConnell said, but police wouldn't say what that weapon was.

MacConnell said the two men were believed to have known each otherand that the public is not at risk.Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fight and police are not looking for further suspects at this time.

"The investigation is still ongoing and very preliminary and over the next hours and dayswitnesses and people involved will be interviewed so we can get a clear insight into what happened in this incident,"MacConnell said.

MacAuslandappeared in court Tuesday. He was also charged with resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and breach of probation.

The last murder to occur on P.E.I. was July2015, according to RCMP.
