Woman charged with stealing $6K from work sentenced to 90 days

A Charlottetown woman who stole from her co-workerswas sentenced Tuesday to 90 days in jail.

52-year-old Kimberly Mae MacKinnonof Charlottetownstole $6,088 from the social fund where she worked.

She was employed bythe provincial government in Information Technology Shared Services.

Forged signature on 22 cheques

Court heard she forged the co-signer'ssignatureon 22 chequesfor the social fund accountover a two year period.

Court also heard the woman lost her jobafter she came forward on her own to confess.

She has sincecashed in her government pension and haspaidthemoney back.

MacKinnonpleaded guilty in July to one count of uttering forged documents.

Feels 'deep remorse'

Court heard the woman has a gambling addiction and is receiving treatment.

At her sentencing hearing Tuesday, MacKinnon apologized to her former co-workers and her family.

She said she feels "deep remorse."

The woman isservingher90-day jail sentence on weekends.

Judge John Douglas excluded the weekend of Dec. 23.
