High winds lead to some delays on P.E.I.

High winds created some problems on P.E.I. on Saturday and there are snow squalls in the forecast for parts of the Island.

Confederation Bridge reopened to all traffic Saturday afternoon

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, according to Environment Canada. (CBC)

It's a windy day across the Islandand eastern P.E.I. is under a snow squall watch.

Saturday morning started with a wind chill of 14. A snow squall watch was issued by Environment Canada for Queens and Kings County.

Flurries are expected in those areaswith the heaviest potentially bringing five centimetres of snow. Winds are expected to gust between 40 and 60 km/h.

Snow squalls are forecast to dissipatewith conditions improving later Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

Windcaused restrictions to be put in place onthe Confederation Bridge around 2 a.m. Saturday. That caused delays for some local newspaper deliveries.

At 9:23 a.m, wind speed on the Confederation Bridge was 92 km/h with gusts reaching 108 km/h.

However, the bridge reopened to all traffic Saturday afternoon around 3:50 p.m.

Still, the men's hockey game between theUniversity of New Brunswickand UPEIin Charlottetown was postponed due to bridge closure for high-sided vehicles earlier in the day.

Those looking to sail to and from the Island arefacing travel restrictions.

Northumberland Ferries cancelled all Saturday crossings from P.E.I. to Nova Scotia due to the forecast.
