About 1,000 Prince Edward Island lobster fishermen took to the waters early Saturday morning for the start of their season.

The P.E.I. Fishermen's Association (PEIFA) is hopeful lobster fishermen will earn a little more for their catch this year.

Fishermen in southwest Nova Scotia have been getting more than $8 a pound for market-size lobsters so far this season. That's anywhere from $2 to $2.50 more a pound than theywere earning at this time last year.

PEIFA's president says the low Canadian dollarand higher international demandshould bode well for Canadian lobster this year.
