They've been mandated to buy local, which is great.- Rob Oakie

It was created through a partnership between the province and Music P.E.I.

The goal is for promotional material to use more local compositions, rather than stock music.

"A lot of times in the past, they may have just gone online and picked some canned music to use for a promotional video they're creating for a conference or commercial or something," said Rob Oakie, executive director of Music P.E.I.

"But now they've been mandated to buy local, which is great."

Oakie says for the artists, the database is less about exposure, and more about making money.

"It means there are going to be a few more revenue opportunities for local artists that may have been outsourced," said Oakie.

Today is the deadline for submissions, but It could be extended if there's enough interest.
