Round 2: School review public meetings continue on P.E.I.

Islanders are being urged to participate in asecond round of public meetings on school reorganization being held Nov. 1 to 10.

The review is looking at the capacity and use of schools in six families of schools: Charlottetown Rural, Morell, Colonel Gray, Kinkora, Westisle, and Montague.

School reconfigurations, rezoning and school closures are all possible outcomes of the review, which began with eight public information meetings earlier this month.

"Through this review we want to provide better learning opportunities for all students," said public schools director Parker Grimmer.

"We look forward to and encourage input from our school communities on the opportunities that are available to us."

The public can provide input online, in writing, or by making presentations at public meetings: a complete list of meeting locations and times can be found on the province's website here.

How it works

The first two hours of each meeting are set aside for individuals or groups to make presentations. People are asked to keep their presentations to less than 10minutes to allow for as many presentations as possible.

During the third hour, people will have an opportunity to provide comment on the ideas presented.

Individuals and groups can book a presentation slot in advance by emailing mwgregory@gov.pe.ca or by calling (902) 620-9044. People can also bring accompanying written submissions.

Information on the process, data on each family of schools, factors to be considered by the board in making changes, as well as ideas that have already been submitted are available at princeedwardisland.ca/betterlearningforall.

Officials will write a report of what it deems "viable options" and in the beginning of 2017, present it to the Public Schools Branch, which will hold further public consultations.
