A complaint about a suspicious person on the Blue Shank Road in P.E.I.'s Prince County led to some dramatic events early Thursday morning.

RCMP received a call just after 5 a.m. about a man in a truck in a parking lot on the road, just outside Summerside.

According to a news release, officers found a Nova Scotia man asleep in a -ton truck. They identified the truck as having beenreported stolen fromCumberland, N.S.

Police made an effort to hem in the truck as the suspect slept, laying down spike belts and positioning two RCMP SUVs to block an escape.

Officers used a stun gunwhen they moved in to make an arrest, but the now-awake man turned onthe truck and smashed it into the police vehicles. He drove over the spike belt, blowing out his tires, but was able to get around the police vehicles to drive off.

The truck was located not far away, in some trees behind a residence, according to the release, so an RCMP dog team was called in to track the driver.
