P.E.I. grabs a piece of 2018 Special Olympics Canada Games

One of the major events in the2018 Special Olympics Canada Games isis coming to Prince Edward Island even though the games were awarded toNova Scotia.

That's because Nova Scotians don't bowl five-pin.

Special Olympics P.E.I. announced this weekthe national five-pin championship will be held at Murphy's Community Centre in Charlottetown, while the other sports take place in Nova Scotia.

"It will be about 300 athletes and coaches who will come from across the country, with the exception of Quebec. They don't have five-pin," said Charity Sheehan, executive director of Special Olympics PEI.

The tournament is a week-long event.

A history of working together

This isn't the first time P.E.I. and Nova Scotia have co-operated at the national level. When P.E.I. hosted the Special Olympics Winter Games in 2004, the downhill skiing competition was held at Ski Wentworth in Nova Scotia/

The Island isn't slated to host a full national event until 2032.
