Stratford appears to be set to maintain its position as P.E.I.'s fastest growing community.

Mayor David Dunphy said staff were crunching the numbers for building permits in June, and there's a significant increase over last year: June 2016 is up 240 per cent over the same month last year, and up 65 per cent in 2016 so far compared to the same time period last year.

"It's a great sign for the economy," said Dunphy.

"It shows that people have confidence in their particular situation, economic situation, and obviously it also means that they have confidence in building in Stratford and living in Stratford."

He said most of the building permits are for single family homes, with some row housing.
