A man has been arrested after police say he stole a stuffed Butterball turkey weighing nearly 8 kilograms, or 17 pounds, from a Summerside, P.E.I., grocery store Tuesday.

Police received a report that a man had left a local grocery store after stealing something from their meat section, Summerside Police Service's Major Crime Unit said via a written release Tuesday.

"It is a little unusual," Cpl. Jennifer Driscoll told CBC News, noting police do often have reports of people taking meat from grocery stores, but not whole turkeys.

Police located the man in a nearby restaurant where he was arrested for theft of the turkey, which he hadin a cloth shopping bag, Driscoll said..

The man has been released and faces a court date in January 2017, police said.
