When J.J. Chaisson ties the knot for people on his fishing boat, he's not using a rope.

He's performing a marriage ceremony.

Chaisson, known as the Fiddling Fisherman, performed his first ceremony as a wedding commissioner on his boat off the coast of Souris.

"There was lots of deep sea fishing and tuna charters going on so I wanted to try something different," said Chaisson.

Scott and Lisa Kennedy, visiting from B.C., told their guests they were going out on the boat to hear fiddling music, another experience Chaisson offers on his boat.

When they got to sea and threw anchor, Chaisson said, Lisa went to the bathroom and changed into a white dress.

"She came up, said I think it's a beautiful day for a wedding, so she caught her guests off guard," he said.

"I could still see the mother, she had sunglasses on, she's like 'You're not going to do this to me' and she started streaming crying."

Once the ceremony was complete and the paperwork signed, they celebrated with champagne and fiddle music.

"When it was over and done with they were absolutely ecstatic, they had the time of their life," Chaisson said.
