COVID-19 on P.E.I.: What's happening Wednesday, June 23

Starting Wednesday, vaccinated people fromNew Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labradorwith pre-travel approval who submitted vaccine records will be exempt from self-isolating on P.E.I.

Travellers will require a negative test soon after arriving on P.E.I.

Also, this is different from the P.E.I. Pass which doesn't come into effect untilJune 27.

The P.E.I. government is hiring 170 people to manage all the travellers coming to the Island at the end of June.

The province has received 28,151P.E.I. Pass applications so far, officials with the Department of Justice and Public Safety said in an email to CBC on Tuesday. Of those applications, 2,090 have been approved.

Part of Nova Scotia's Trans-Canada Highway has been shut down because ofa protest overborder restrictions announced Tuesday by the provincial government.P.E.I. officials say they are concerned about the disruptionand are hoping for a "swift and peaceful" resolution.

Because vaccine supplies have increased, an additional 14 P.E.I. pharmacies can now offer the Moderna vaccineto anyone aged 18 and over.

Starting Wednesday, Coach Atlantic Maritime Bus is increasing itsservice to six days a week with the easing of borders in Atlantic Canada.Travel and parcel delivery will be available every day except Saturday.

For their ninth season and second COVID-19 summer, Prince Edward Island musical comedy duo Patrick Ledwell and Mark Haines are back for the Island Summer Review.

The Canadian Premier League won't be back in Prince Edward Island to play games this summer, butleague commissioner David Clanachansays he'd love to bring teams back someday.

Prince Edward Island has reported no new cases since June 3, and has no active cases.

Elsewhere in Atlantic Canada:

New Brunswick reported one new case Wednesday, for a total of 43 active cases.

Nova Scotia has no new cases of COVID-19, and the number of active cases has fallen to 60.

Newfoundland and Labrador has no new COVID-19 cases. There are 13 active cases.
