The 20th annual telethon for Charlottetown's Queen Elizabeth Hospital continued its remarkable record of fundraising over the weekend.

The telethon on Eastlink raised $580,980.

QEH Foundation CEO Barb Dunphy saluted the telethon's volunteers, many who have been with the event from the start.

"It's hard to believe it's been 20 years," said Dunphy.

"The entertainers, it's amazing how they give their time to so many events, and they volunteer their time for our telethon."

Millions of dollars raised

Stories shared by patients have been a feature of the telethon since it began, and this year's event included catching up with some patients who shared their stories decades ago.

"We've had patients tell stories, very personal stories," said Dunphy.

"We are looking back at some of our patients we had 20 years ago, to see where they are at now and how well they are doing."

In total, over the past 20 years, $8 million has been raised through the telethon.
