Alan Richards has not been seen since. His vehicle, a black 2013 Ford Escape, was located in the Cape Bear area of Kings County, said P.E.I. Ground Search and Rescue president Ken Hall.

"We try to be optimistic, but we are concerned," Hall said.

GSAR, Kings District RCMP,the RCMP Police Dog Service, and a helicopter from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax are all taking part in the search in and around the Cape Bear area of Kings County.

"We're searching the wooded area, along the shore and the water around where his vehicle was found," said Hall.

The search began in the early evening Wednesday and continued through the night. About 45 to 50 volunteers were searching Thursday. There are some challenges, said Hall, but they train for these situations and are well prepared.

"One of the major hazards is there's a lot of cliffs in the area and a lot of undercut, so we have to be careful there," he said.
